The women of Out To Swim form an integral, important part of the club, and continue to go from strength to strength. We have been featured twice recently in Diva magazine, and female members of the club are active in Water Polo, Open Water swimming, and the Women’s and Mixed swimming sessions both in London and Brighton. The OTS channel relay teams in 2009 included 2 female swimmers - 1 of whom is also part of the OTS 2011 Manhattan Island Marathon Relay Team, and 1 of our women was recently ranked 3rd in the FINA World Masters Rankings for 50 and 100 fly. In 2011, 11 of us travelled to Manchester to compete in WAMM 2011 – the first women-only swimming competition in Europe. Four of our coaches are female, including our head coach, and the current Chair of our club is a woman too, so we’re well represented within the club, helping to create a female friendly environment at every session.
If you’re a competent swimmer (no, you don’t have to be fast!) do come along and try us out. You can come to any of the mixed sessions, but we have a women-only session at 20:00 on Thursday evenings (at the Oasis swimming club), which offers a fun, sociable and perhaps less daunting way for women to join the club. This session tends to be a little less crowded and not as intense as some of the other sessions, so it’s a good introduction to the club. If you don’t think you’re quite up to swimming in our regular sessions, why not sign up for our swimming lesson programme in London on Sunday evenings? With two lanes of the six lane pool at the Queen Mother's Swimming Centre dedicated to our beginners and improvers classes, this is another great way to ease yourself into club swimming.
If you feel you still need some encouragement before coming along to Out To Swim, why not contact our Women's Rep either here or through the contact section of the website? We would be very happy to answer any questions you may have.
You can also read about Jayne O'Brien's Out to Swim experience on Diva Magazine.
We hope to see you poolside very soon!
