Competition Buddies wanted!
OTS is looking for experienced competition swimmers to help mentor/buddy up with swimmers who are new(ish) to competitions in the run-up to, and during the event.
We’d like to get this up-and-running ASAP, aiming for a good team spirit, a massive turn out at the Middlesex County Championships in North London, on 24th July, and hopefully to reclaim the Championship Trophy.
Am I suitable?
You don’t have to be super fast, but experience at competitions and be able to tell a new swimmer what happens at a race would be very helpful. So those who have participated in a fair few competitions as a swimmer or an organiser or coach, who trains fairly regularly, and who is intending to go to Middlesex will be suitable.
What is my responsibility?
Final details have yet to be worked out, but in short the role will be informal, temporary, and low key. The aim would be to (a) help newer swimmers learn the ropes before, during and after the competition - what to do before a race, how to warm up, chat about being nervous, to help them with relays, cool down, and just keep an eye out for them, and (b) hopefully this will foster a good team spirit, and greater integration between the various lanes/sessions.
NB. This is NOT to replace the on-going coaching advice, but is meant to supplement it. It’s also not an exercise in speed-dating (just saying).
