Orca women vs Oxford 8-4 win

Added on by Guest User.

In what was my last polo game with the fabulous Orca Ladies for the foreseeable future (insert tear) we played against Oxford at Whitgift School. There were an unheard of 10 of us!

Mel kindly led the way and set the tone, scoring the first goal of the game, not even 30seconds into the start of the match! Much of the first quarter continued that way, with Elise, Oti (welcome back!) & Carlota all scoring a goal each, ending the first quarter 4-0.

The lead was great and enabled us to try some more driving and a few different tactics. Oxford pushed back, with their first goal of the game, but we defended really well, Sef made some fabulous saves! enabling us to score 3 more goals, our newest recruit Julia (welcome!) scoring a fabulous goal from a drive!!

We went into the half winning 7-1.

The tempo of the game definitely changed at the half waymark, we dropped off quite a bit & were very unlucky to not have two 5m penalties given, when the goalie put the ball under, not once, but twice! Sef again made some great saves! But we let her down by not releasing forthe ball earlier, therefore wasting precious time & forcing under pressure passes.

We had some great breakaways & some good movement in the pit, both of which we were unlucky to not capitaliseon more. We ended on losing the 2nd half 3-1, but we still won the game 8-4! A great spread of goals across the team, with goals to Carlota x 2, Mik x 2, Elise, Oti, Julia & Mel x 1.

I am sad to be leaving, but very confident that these ladies will continue to smash it whilst I’m gone! I’ve seen so much improvement during my 22 months in the club & it is so good to see everyone playing really well together & getting a solid 7 ladies to Monday trainings!

Mel & Thania have kindly agreed to Co-Captain the team whilst I’m gone, so the team we be in fabulous & formidable hands!

A big thanks to the ladies for making me so welcome, always giving their all & above all else beingan amazing bunch to play & socialisewith! Lots of laughs & memories!

Signing off for the last time, thanks for reading!
